Sestriere

Without any doubt, it is the most important ski resort in Piedmont. Originally this area, situated on the hills that connected the Val Chisone and the Val di Susa, consisted of only two ancient towers but, bit by bit, numerous new buildings, blocks of flats and sports centres were added.

Sestrière has always maintained its position as world leader in winter tourism but this has been further enhanced with the opening of the Via Lattea, a huge area that connects other ski stations with the Val di Susa. Sestrière as Capital of the Via Lattea has more than 240 miles of pistes with 88 cable-cars, chairlifts and ski-lifts connecting the stations of Borgata Sestrière, Grangesises, Sansicario, Cesana, Claviere, Sauze d'Oulx and Montgenèvre.

This extraordinary network covers more than 240 miles of piste and even the most expert skier couldn’t try them all in one day. There are simply too many runs and variations. The oldest buildings in the town date back to 1930 and are particularly interesting for architecture enthusiasts. The same applies to the hamlet of Champlas Janvier along the mule-path that connects Champlas du Col and Sauze di Cesana and the church of San Restituto.
